My Story to Honor the Vietnam Veteran


      One day in January 1999, I was reading the latest news on the Internet and came across an article concerning the Vietnamese storeowner in Westminster, CA. (Little Saigon) who had hung the communist flag outside his establishment. Needless to say, his fellow Vietnamese refugee neighbors were furious at him for his pro-communist "statement."

      A news agency on the Internet asked its readers to give their opinions on this matter. I wrote in, and a Vietnam veteran saw my remarks and wrote to me to thank me for what I had said. I replied to him that I wanted to take this opportunity to thank him for his service in Vietnam. Again the veteran responded, saying that in all the years since the war, no one had ever personally thanked him before now. This saddened me tremendously, especially because I remember watching the news accounts of how badly so many of the veterans were treated upon their arrival back home to the country that had asked (and in most cases, insisted!) that they serve. Those images have haunted me for years.

      I decided that I had to do something to help. But what???
