I Want to Thank You

(A tribute to the Vietnam veteran)

I was just a young girl when this country went to war. The question raged around me, "What are we fighting for?" A people's cry for freedom never reached some ears, deafened by the shoutin' of expletives and jeers.

On the battlefields of 'Nam, its jungles hot and deep, you fought the fight for freedom - a pledge you had to keep. You served in truth with valor, no matter what the cost, and you died a thousand times when anyone was lost.

So, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart. I want to thank you; these words are just a start to thank you for your service, for the sacrifice you made, for your bravery, your courage, and for the price you paid. I want to thank you.

Now these unsung heroes need the simple thanks they're due, to ease the painful memories of all they have been through. They performed their duty and followed each command, to bring the hope of liberty to a foreign land.

America! America! God has given grace to thee. So crown this good with your brotherhood, from sea to shining sea! America! America! These vets served you and me.

So, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart. I want to thank you; these words are just a start to thank you for your service, for the sacrifice you made, for your bravery, your courage, and for the price you paid. I want to thank you. I want to thank you. I want to thank you. America thanks you.
